Principal's News

Dear Families,

What a busy term we have been having at St Patrick’s School. Recently our students had the excitement of the Mitchell Show being in town. Our students submitted a range of art and cooking work in a variety of show categories. Some of our students were awarded recognition for their efforts and all of our students had the joy of seeing their work on display and sharing this moment with their families. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students and staff for their efforts and contributions to our local community event.

Recently I had the pleasure of attending our TCSO leadership forum with principals from other Catholic schools in our Diocese as well as various leadership members from our TCSO office. During the week I was able to work with colleagues and engage in a variety of robust conversations around the great things that are happening in our Toowoomba Catholic School region. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to work with other Principals and share what our schools are doing well and ways that we can continue to grow our school and provide the best learning experiences possible for our students. At St Patrick’s School we are blessed to be able to offer our students with small class sizes and expert teachers and staff to assist our students in the best possible way on their learning journey.

Recently we have been fundraising for our Year 5/6 school camp and we have been fortunate enough to have local community organisations support our fundraising efforts. On behalf of St Patrick’s School and our Year 5/6 students and families, I would like to thank the following people for your support: Mitchell Magpies Rugby League Club, Mitchell Campdraft Association and the Mitchell Show Society for allowing us to have our recycling bins at your events. I would also like to thank Adrienne and Robin Mansfield (Containers for Change) for providing additional bins and counting and sorting our cans. St Pat's is currently selling tickets for our upcoming multi-draw raffle. We have been supported with a wide range of donations from local business and families. Thank you to the many businesses and families who have donated to our Multi-draw raffle.

APRE News

The charism of Mercy lived by Sisters of Mercy is an ongoing expression of the charism Catherine McAuley lived. Yet that charism may be lived by all women and men.​ The Mercy charism is the source of inspiration for St Patrick’s Primary School and provides insight into the Mercy values.

This term St Patrick's School have been reviewing our Mercy Values. Staff, students, families and community members have been provided with an opportunity to learn about our current Mercy Values and to offer feedback on which values best represent our school. As we continue to finalise our Mercy Value review we look forward to sharing our results with you in the near future.

Thank you to everyone who has provided their feedback throughout this process.

PPF News

The next meeting of the PPF Assn will be held on Monday, 19th June at 5.30 p.m.

Mother's Day Stall

On Friday, 12th May St Patrick's School hosted a Mother's Day Stall.  A wonderful variety of gifts were kindly donated by our families and purchased by our students.  A total of $465.00 was raised and the money is going  towards the cost of the Yr 5 and 6 camp.  Thank you to everyone  involved and to all the families who supported the stall. 

Chocolate Fundraiser

The PPF is selling boxes of chocolates for $60.00 each.  If anyone is interested in selling a box please contact the school office.

Wellbeing News

Wellbeing Matters: 

This months wellbeing topic focuses on self esteem. The information below has been taken from the Australian parenting website, Raising Children.  

Primary school-age children and self-esteem 

At school, children might compare themselves with their friends and classmates. At this age, self-esteem tends to relate to many things – including how well children learn, how they look, how they do at sport and how easily they make friends. 

Challenges at school might seem to dent your child’s self-esteem  because your child might feel less capable than others for the first time. But this will help them learn that they don’t need to be perfect at everything to be loved, valued and capable. 

Here are some ways you can help: 

• Give extra love and cuddles at the end of the school day. 
• Focus on the effort your child puts in and the courage it takes to try new or difficult things. For example, ‘I know you were worried about dancing in the concert, but you were so brave to give it go’. 
• Encourage your child to try again when things don’t go to plan the first time. You could say, ‘Go on, give it another try – I believe you can do it’. This also builds your child’s resilience. 
• Coach your child through tricky social situations – for example, ‘Try giving a big smile when you want to join in. People will want to play with you if you look happy’. You could try role-playing these situations with your child first. 

• Foster a good relationship between school and home by talking with the teacher to find out how your child is going. It’s also good to get involved in school life if you can and show interest in your child’s schoolwork and homework. 

Being  connected to other people who care about them is important for children’s self-esteem. It helps to strengthen their sense of who they are. You could encourage your child to see their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, if that works for your family. Or you could get involved in a local religious community, sporting club or community service. 

Gunggari News

Yowalla ,

Des Crump and Tennille Bainbridge came out and visited us.               Prep-2 learnt how to ask for tea and food in Gunggari.

NAIDOC Week Liturgy and eventts will be held from 9am on 23 June at the Yumba.

HASS News

This term, students identified significant people and events in their own lives. In the unit, "Fabulous Families", students explored their family structure and their own personal history. They learnt about how significant events are celebrated or commemorated. Students identified a variety of symbols that are associated with these events and made connections between their own experiences, and those of others. They posed questions about familiar family traditions and shared personal experiences. We've had a great time getting to know who's in our P/1/2 families!

Maranoa Music at the Roma Show

Three of our students Zoe Wise and Wyatt and Maggie Butler attended the Roma & District Intermediate Music Camp which was held in early May in Roma.  The camp was designed to offer our students a unique and enriching musical experience under the guidance of expert musicians from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

The Roma & District Intermediate Music Camp was for students in Year 5 and above who are completing Level 2 or above of the Instrumental Music Curriculum. The Roma & District Intermediate Music Camp provides an opportunity for wind, brass, percussion and string students to participate in a full-sized concert band with students from schools around the district. The camp is an intensive program of music making and was followed by a performance at the Roma Show on Saturday 13^th May to showcase the ensembles.
